Siraya National Scenic Area Headquarters

Famous for its chalky mudstone terrain, Zuozhen District in Tainan City not only has special scenic beauty such as the Tsao Shan Moon World and Erliao Sunrise and Cloud Sea, but also has unique industries and humanistic sentiments worth savoring in this small, simple village.

The former Kanglin Elementary School in Gongguan Community, Zuozhen Dist. was closed due to population outmigration and declining birth rates, and has been transformed into a care center for the Gongguan Community Development Association. There are five large water pipes in the playground, which also serve as a great background for taking beautiful photos!​​​​​​​

Gongguan Community in Zuozhen Dist., this simple mountain village consisting of the three villages of Erliao, Ganglin, and Tsaoshan, could not grow high-value crops in the past due to poor soil quality. The Gongguan Community combined everyone's efforts to develop badland crops and flavor meals. For example, kudzu (also known as arrowroot, maranta, or Bermuda arrowroot) is an underground tuber plant. About ten kilograms of kudzu can only yield 1.5 kilograms of powder after washing. The Gongguan Community processes kudzu into kudzu powder and chewy kudzu noodles, transforming kudzu, which can still grow robustly in badland terrain, into a local specialty. In addition, marigolds, red turmeric, and Caozaiguo and other specialty products also attract many tourists to come and taste.

And Gongguan Community is also a tribe of the Siraya people, so tribal walking activities are held in the Gongguan Community, allowing travelers to come to Zuozhen to experience the life of the Siraya people and learn about Siraya culture. A Kudzu Story Museum has also been set up in the school building to allow more people to learn about the industry and history of this area.
