Ga Ma Ga Ju SiKarma Kagyu Temple is Taiwan's largest Tibetan Buddhist temple.
Ga Ma Ga Ju SiKarma Kagyu Temple, located in Zuozhen, Tainan, is the largest Tibetan Buddhist temple in Taiwan. The temple has solemn Buddha statues about 20 meters tall, which are majestic. There are also many magnificent buildings with Tibetan Buddhist decorations. Even if you don't have religious beliefs, the unique art style is worth careful appreciation by travelers.
You can start to feel the intense Tibetan Buddhist atmosphere on the way from the parking lot to Ga Ma Ga Ju SiKarma Kagyu Temple. The prayer wheels along the way are the most prominent feature. The entrance of the mountain gate at the Ga Ma Ga Ju SiKarma Kagyu Temple symbolizes the beginning of the pilgrimage. This Paifang-style characteristic building is a three-layer platform structure representing Buddhism's three Yanas (vehicles). The golden Spoke of Wheel and the male and female deer on the top are the most representative symbols of Tibetan Buddhist temples.
The Tathagata Building combines the beauty of Han and Tibetan architectural art and contains solemn stone sculptures of seven Buddhas and a 16-meter-high statue of Sakyamuni Buddha preaching. Looking closely at the seven Buddha statues, each has a different expression and mudra (seal), showing a solemn and compassionate aura. The statue of Sakyamuni preaching in the hall is Taiwan's giant indoor Buddha statue, which is listed as one of the three artistic wonders of Ga Ma Ga Ju SiKarma Kagyu Temple, along with the seven Buddha stone sculptures and the nine Mandalas of the caisson ceiling.
In addition to the Sakyamuni Buddha statue in the Tathagata Building, there is also a giant Buddha statue standing outdoors. The nearly 20-meter-tall Buddha is still magnificent. Located in the outdoor courtyard, the relic pagoda circles in a clockwise direction along the 204 golden prayer wheels, which also help to calm the mind. Many notable temple buildings and Buddhist artworks are in the Ga Ma Ga Ju SiKarma Kagyu Temple area, and travelers are waiting to explore them. Next time you visit Zuozhen, arrange a time to feel the peace and joy of body, mind, and spirit.
