2025 World Bicycle Day Taiwan-wide Cycling Connection Launched

The 2025 World Bicycle Day Taiwan-wide cycling connection was launched today (June 3). Led by Technical Superintendent of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications Ting-Chang Chou ; Director Chu-Long Xu of the Siraya National Scenic Area Headquarters ; Secretary-General of the Siraya Tourism Industry Association , Qing-Nan Gao ; Secretary - General of the Taiwan Cyclist Federation , Li-Qing He ; and Chairman of the Kaohsiung International Bike Tourism Promotion Association , Qi-Ying Chang, the team rode the 18th section of the route — Lingbo-Guantian Route — and the 19th section — Mountains to Sea Greenway, covering a total distance of approximately 50 kilometers. They witnessed the unique scenery of the water chestnut fields and the canal in Siraya. Despite the continuous rain ,the cyclists' enthusiasm remained undeterred.
According to Technical Superintendent Ting-Chang Chou, there are 46 cycling sections in Taiwan for World Bicycle Day 2025, with two routes under the jurisdiction of the Siraya National Scenic Area Headquarters. Riding along the Canal Greenway bikeway, cyclists can experience the foothill ecology and the scenic water chestnut fields. The Canal Greenway highlights the century-old Chianan Irrigation system, which nourishes the Jianan Plain and stands as a significant engineering achievement in Taiwan. On World Bicycle Day, showcase Taiwan to the world.
It is worth mentioning that the cycling route passes through the Hatta Yoichi Memorial Park, one of the Smiling South Bay check-in points promoted by the Tourism Administration of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications. The route also passes through Southern Taiwan Science Park, the National Museum of Taiwan History, the Tainan Asia-Pacific International Baseball Stadiums and Training Centers, and Taijiang Boulevard , which connects to the West Coast Expressway . This route fully represents Taiwan's rich humanities, history, agricultural technology, transportation network, sports tourism, and technological industry development. It is also a key section of the Mountains to Sea Greenway Taiwan , stretching from the Canal Route to Taijiang Lagoon. Cyclists are encouraged to ride this route on weekdays, immerse themselves in the continuous flow of the canal with all five senses , appreciate the fruits of farmers' hard work , and savor local specialties and delicacies. Let's promote low-carbon tourism through real-world cycling experiences.
Chu-Long Xu, Director of the Siraya National Scenic Area Headquarters, emphasized that cycling has become an indispensable sport and mode of transportation . It not only enhances physical fitness and daily exercise but also relieves stress and promotes overall health. Additionally, it aligns with the global trend of green tourism and low-carbon travel. He expressed gratitude to all cyclists who participated in the World Bicycle Day event on June 3. Along the way, the golden-yellow Cassia fistula and bright-red Delonix regia marked the arrival of the water chestnut season, while the elegant Jacanas could be seen in their natural habitat. The green water chestnut fields reflecting the blue sky created a picturesque scene.This event also serves as a prelude to the upcoming "Wonderland Siraya Cycling 5 COOL" cycling series, organized by the Siraya National Scenic Area Headquarters. Through bike and train tours, participants will explore the beautiful scenery and delicious food around the reservoirs within the jurisdiction .
Taiwan boasts 46 cycling sections , each with its own unique characteristics. The Lingbo-Guantian Route (Section 18) and the Mountains to Sea Greenway (Section 19) , managed by the Siraya National Scenic Area Headquarters , cross the Mountains to Sea Greenway Canal Route and part of Taijiang Lagoon. Tourists can take the Taiwan Railway to Longtian Station on both weekdays and holidays and rent a YouBike for a bike-train tour. Cycling along the Lingbo-Guantian Route, visitors can explore the Longtian Cultural Heritage Area, Jacana Ecological Education Park,Hatta Yoichi Memorial Park, and Wushantou Reservoir Scenic Area. They can also stop in Longtian to enjoy rice cakes and tofu pudding, visit Liujia for the century-old roasted wheat flour ice, and have a cup of coffee at Dr. Goffee. For those with more time, a two-day tour can be arranged, traveling
along the Golden Provincial Highway 3 to enjoy mango ice in Yujing, hot springs in Nanhsi, turmeric chicken , plum chicken, and a visit to the secret lake of Zengwen Reservoir.
